“Servitization” refers to the shift from traditional product sales to service-based business models, where companies provide solutions through long-term service agreements rather than one-time sales transactions. This approach allows businesses to access advanced technologies and efficiency improvements without large upfront investments and any of the risks associated or perceived with such assets, while ensuring ongoing performance, maintenance, and optimisation.” |
Nexans, a global leader in the design and manufacturing of cable systems and services, has long been at the forefront of innovation. With operations spanning the globe, the company has made significant strides in integrating sustainable practices, including a successful transition to a state-of-the-art and high-performance lighting system. This transformation was made possible thanks to an innovative “Light-as-a-Service” model, and optimised Nexans’ lighting infrastructure across 12 sites throughout Europe, marking the company’s commitment to advancing operational efficiency and decarbonisation.
Building on this success and seeking to address broader energy needs, Nexans’ historic site in Cortaillod, Switzerland has partnered with the Servetia Initiative to explore how service-based models could support the retrofit of their heating and cooling equipment along with an effective MRV (Measurement Reporting and Verification) system. Recognising the importance of tailored energy solutions, this Swiss-based collaboration focuses on evaluating specific needs and technical requirements for the integration of energy-efficient technologies at Cortaillod’s factory.
“Nexans Switzerland is a key partner of the Servetia Initiative, engaging as an end customer to explore and implement service-based models for energy efficiency. By evaluating solutions like Heating-as-a-Service, Nexans Switzerland is assessing how these innovative approaches can support its decarbonisation efforts while ensuring predictable costs and operational reliability at its Cortaillod site.” Yannick Heinrich, Project Lead Servetia, BASE
As part of this partnership, Servetia has worked with Nexans Switzerland to identify tailored solutions that align with their operational goals. Informative sessions with Nexans’ management in Switzerland have highlighted the advantages of servitisation, such as predictable costs, reduced risks, and enhanced focus on Nexans’ core operations. In parallel, Servetia is currently collaborating with Nexans Switzerland in preparing a tendering process to engage solution providers in proposing tailored efficient heating and cooling offerings to optimise energy use and sustainability. The proposed solutions are set to be presented in Q2 2025.
“To improve our energy efficiency, we are looking into modernising our heating system at Nexans Cortaillod. The option of Heating-as-a-Service seems promising to us and is currently being evaluated. This follows on from our successful switch to Lighting-as-a-Service with Signify, which has already significantly reduced our energy consumption. We are convinced that this approach could bring tangible benefits and become a lasting part of our energy transition strategy.” – Yvan Favarger, Cortaillod Site Industrial & Maintenance Manager at Nexans
Nexans’ collaboration with Servetia at its Cortaillod site is part of its ongoing efforts to explore energy efficiency measures and assess opportunities for reducing emissions while maintaining operational excellence. Servetia’s support helps structure and evaluate solutions that align with Nexans’ long-term sustainability objectives, ensuring an informed approach to implementing energy-efficient technologies. By facilitating this process, Servetia contributes to identifying viable pathways for Nexans Switzerland to optimise energy use and advance its decarbonisation roadmap in a practical and measurable way.
