Exploring Decarbonisation with Hospital Schulthess

The Schulthess Klinik, renowned for its world-class expertise and patient care, has long been a pioneer in aligning operational efficiency with sustainable practices. Located in Zurich, the Klinik has already made significant strides in decarbonising its operations, particularly with its seawater-based heating system in partnership with Energie360°, which ensures renewable heating while using modern gas boilers as backup. Additionally, comprehensive LED retrofits have further reduced energy consumption.

Building on these successes, the Schulthess Klinik has partnered with the Servetia Initiative to explore photovoltaic (PV) solutions that complement its existing infrastructure. Recognising the Klinik’s ability to self-finance energy projects, the collaboration is focused on evaluating PV contracting models alongside outright purchase options. This analysis aims to optimise the Klinik’s transition to renewable energy while balancing financial efficiency, operational simplicity, and long-term sustainability.

As part of this partnership, Servetia has supported the Klinik in analysing energy consumption patterns and highlighting the value of servitisation models. Informative sessions tailored to the Klinik’s leadership team emphasised benefits such as predictable operational costs, reduced performance risks, and freed-up internal capacity. In parallel, Servetia facilitated a robust tendering process, inviting leading solar PV providers to present tailored offers, ensuring transparency and alignment with the Klinik’s goals.

The project is currently advancing through the planning and research phase, with developments anticipated in 2025. By integrating photovoltaic solutions, the Schulthess Klinik aims to further its sustainability leadership while maintaining its commitment to providing exceptional care.
