The Stiftung Diakoniewerk Neumünster (SDN) – of which the Hospital Zollikerberg is part – has long been committed to the wellbeing of its patients and caregivers, deaconesses, a commitment reflected in every decision they take. Nestled within the serene beauty of Zollikerberg’s gardens, the campus embodies their values of care, sustainability, and responsibility.
Seeking to align modern advancements and their foundational ethos further, the SDN and the Zollikerberg Spital partnered with the Servetia Initiative to support their decarbonisation journey as part of their overarching “Masterplan.” Initially focusing on the deployment of photovoltaic systems designed to complement the aesthetic of their historic campus, the collaboration has expanded into a broader scope, encompassing renewable heating and cooling solutions (exploring solutions from district heating to geothermal probes), as well as comprehensive LED retrofits (with more than 20 percent potential energy reduction).
As part of the efforts, beyond analysing energy consumption, the Servetia team introduced the benefits of servitisation (such as reduced operational and performance risks) through informative sessions tailored to the SDN staff. Hands-on support for their tendering process was also provided, inviting solar photovoltaic, heating, and lighting as-a-service providers to present their innovative services and tailored offers. This collaborative approach has enabled SDN to explore diverse solutions while keeping their values and long-term goals at the forefront.
Given the hospital’s ability to invest in its own energy sources, the project is currently in the research and planning phase, with key developments anticipated by late 2025 and early 2026, laying the groundwork for greener and more sustainable operations.
Carol Güntert, responsible for Buildings & Infrastructure and leading the Stiftung’s decarbonisation efforts, shared her enthusiasm for this collaboration: “The Stiftung Diakoniewerk Neumünster, which includes the Zollikerberg Hospital (Spital Zollikerberg), is working hand in hand with the Servetia team, exploring options towards decarbonisation through as-a-Service models, from heating and cooling to lighting systems and photovoltaic solutions!”
Servetia is proud to continue supporting the Stiftung Diakoniewerk Neumünster on their path toward achieving impactful and sustainable energy solutions that align with their values and goals.
